This design is clearly the work of a court painter and
generally this carpet has been attributed to East Persia.
At first glance it seems to belong to the same group
as Plate Eleven but this comparison proves superficial on further
examination. It is more clarifying to think in styles (or schools)
than to attempt any artificial chronology, as we are probably viewing
similar designs made in other places, i.e. Plate Eleven's place of
manufacture more probably in North-West Persia, with different weaving
techniques.
