The North West Persian medallion carpets pave the way for a whole other group of much more elaborately woven medallion carpets and here the revolution of design is in full swing. This group features a wide variety of animal figures usually showing them in combat.

Real animal portraiture, like that appearing in some of the previous examples, is unknown for in these carpets the animal figures are always caricatures.

This group of animal carpets can be divided into two sub-types, those with and those without medallions.
