Within the central medallion of this soumak bag the small yellow star-like design
has been woven in silk, a material rarely used in the construction of these
bags. Its appearance here, in the most central area of the design, shows the
importance the weaver placed on its use.
This author believes that this particular bag was woven in the Talish region
where such brilliant coloration, hard shiny wool and similar designs are known
to have been present. But until further scientific and ethnographic research
is undertaken this and any other suggestions of provenance made in the following
descriptions must remain as pure speculation.
