A similar hooked-design with a cross in the center has been placed within the
six-sided medallions, which fill the field of this and the previous example.
The ascending arch-like pattern on this weaving implies that it may have been
made as a prayer carpet and the large size could indicate its use within a mosque
or some other religious building. The presence of a number of cross-like designs
on these two kelims should not be construed as a reference to Christianity but
rather to the common ancestry many designs share.
